2009 Paris Culinary Treasures Tours
Itinerary

A Culinary Adventure Through Paris
May 9-16 and September 26-October 3. 

Please plan to arrive in Paris on May 8 or September 25

We encourage guests to arrive in Paris on Friday, May 8 or September 25 to be rested and ready to begin the tour on Saturday morning.  Arrive Charles DeGaulle Airport, transfer to hotel.  Guests will be emailed an informational packet prior to departure that lists several ‘jet-lag friendly’ things to see and do near the hotel, plus restaurants, cafes, bistros nearby.  You will also receive an updated itinerary two weeks prior to the tour commencing. Rooms will be available at the normal afternoon check in time on Friday.

Day One: Saturday, May 9 or September 26:
Tour commences at 10:30 a.m. in the hotel lobby.  Welcome and orientation by Sally Peabody, Tour Leader.  Walking Tour:  A Visit to the fabulous President Wilson Market in the 16th and an Introduction to the Culinary Treasures of St. Germain des Pres.  After visiting bakers, pastry and chocolate makers, artisanal culinary oil makers, Kusmi Teas new shop and more we will relax on a one-hour Seine Cruise. Tasting:  Tea at Mariage Freres.  Dinner at La Ferrandaise or a comparable gourmet bistro in our quarter.

Day Two: Sunday, May 10 or September 27:  Breakfast at the hotel.  Meet at 10:00. Walking Tour:  Two Vibrant Markets, the Marais & Aligre quarters.  We will tour the bustling Place d’Aligre and Richard Lenoir markets then enjoy a walking tour of the historic, but ever up-to-date Marais quarter.  Relaxed lunch at Robert et Louise in the Marais.

Day Three: Monday, May 11 or September 28: Breakfast at hotel.  Meet van at 9:00 for our daytrip to the provincial city of Reims, the heart of Champagne.  We will visit a noted Champagne firm’s cellars (eg. Taittinger), the historic and beautiful Reims’ Cathedral of Notre Dame, and shop for Champagnes and regional gourmet specialities. Lunch at classic Art Nouveau era Brasserie Boulingrin. Afternoon drive through the winegrowing villages and stop at a family producer of grand cru Champagnes.

Day Four: Tuesday, May 12 or September 29: Breakfast at hotel.  Meet at 10:00.  Walking Tour of the village-like Montmartre quarter, especially the ‘back of the butte’ and afterwards, the hip rue de Martyrs market street in the 9th.   Lunch at Le Maquis.   Tasting:  French Chocolates at Natier.

Day Five: Wednesday, May 13 or September 30:  Breakfast at hotel.  Meet at 10:00.  Walking tour of the artisan-filled Viaduc des Arts in the 12th, the Promenade Plantee and Bercy village.  Lunch/tasting: Wine and cheese degustation at Fils O Fromage.  Visit to Le Cure Gourmand in Bercy Village to taste Provencal cookies and candies.  Walk in the Bercy Gardens.

Day Six: Thursday, May 14 or October 1:  Breakfast at hotel.  Meet at 10:00.  Walking Tour of the world famed food and cookwares shops on and near the rue Montorgueil, one of Paris’ best market streets. Then, on to explore the atmospheric passage couvert named the Galleries Vivienne, the verdant, peaceful Palais Royal.  Lunch at classic and romantic brasserie Le Grand Colbert.  Tasting:  Regional French Wines at Juveniles Bar A Vins.

Day Seven: Friday, May 15 or October 2:  Exploring Culinary Treasures in the 6th and 7th.  Gastronomic lunch at a top Culinary School.  Today we explore additional culinary treasures of the 6th and 7th arrondissements, including visits to master boulangers, chocolatiers and patissiers, a shop with stunning Basque table linens, the Friday Raspail Market, the rue de Bac shopping street and the incomparable Grand Epicerie of the Bon Marche.  Lunch will be a relaxed multi-course gastronomic meal at the Ecole Superieur de Cuisine Francaise Ferrandi.  Guided tour ends late afternoon on Friday.

Saturday:  May 16 or October 3:  Breakfast at hotel.  Depart for airport.  We can arrange tours of the Paris Flea Market, day trips to Versailles, Chartres, Normandy or Giverny, or other custom guiding for guests remaining in Paris for the weekend.
