Paris Food Lover’s Long-Weekend

Itinerary

October 15 through 17, 2010

Luscious French chocolates, cheese, charcuterie, glorious Patisserie, marvelous Macarons, perfect baguettes…. And more!  Join Paris-specialist Sally Peabody on this spirited three-day immersion in the best Parisian Marché Volants, characterful market streets lined with enticing gourmet shops, convivial wine bars, and artisanal chocolatiers.

Explore the best Paris food-lovers addresses on the right and left banks!

Friday, October 15Two top Paris market-streets. Exploring the Rue de Levis and Rue de Martyrs.  Meet at our starting point at 10:00 a.m. and we will visit two wonderful off-the-beaten-path gourmet destinations in the residential 17th and the 9th arrondissements.   The rue Levis is a lovely high-quality French market street with excellent food shops and also a great cluster of adorable children’s clothing and toy shops on its northern end (parents and grandparents take note!).

We will visit L’Ecureuil, a splendid patisserie that specializes in ‘market fresh’ patisserie and sample their delicious macarons.  Our relaxed lunch will be at an area bistro or winebar.  After lunch, we will metro over to the vibrant rue de Martyrs market street and explore the fine patisseries, specialty food shops and other interesting shopping along and around this street as it winds down the hill from Montmartre to the Notre Dame de Lorette church.  We will savor a visit to Natier, a superb little chocolate shop, where we will learn about and taste classic French chocolates with the lovely, English-speaking proprietaire.

Saturday, October 16Elegant Markets and Market Streets in the 16th and the 7th.  Meet at our starting point at 10:00 for our visit to the stellar Franklin Wilson Marché Volant.  We will explore this market with its breathtaking abundance of top-quality fresh and prepared French foods. This market also is a wonderful source for food-gifts to bring home. Following the Franklin Wilson market we will walk across the Seine, enjoying breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower from Trocadero, and explore the Rue Cler Market Street in the 7th.   Lunch will be at Le Café Constant or a similar excellent bistro.

Sunday, October 17Fabulous and Funky Foodie Troves in the 4th and 11th.  We will meet at 10:00 a.m. at our starting point to explore two wonderful and diverse Paris markets.  First we will walk to the Place d’Aligre covered market and outdoors market/flea market to explore this bustling, multi-cultural trove.  We will visit exceptional patisseries and a fine olive oils shop along the Square Trousseau and troll the excellent food shops along the rue d’Aligre.  After a stop for a glass of wine at the atmospheric Baron Bouge wine bar we will walk back to the Marais to explore the large Sunday Richard Lenoir market.  Mid-afternoon, we will sample the best Felafel along the Rue de Rosiers in the Marais and finish the day with a walk through the beautiful Marais quarter.  Relaxing over one of 100 plus fine teas at the venerable Mariage Frères will end to the afternoon.
