France Through Eyes of Faith

A Spirited Journey Through
Paris, Chartres, Angers & Reims

March 17-24, 2012

Paris is a feast on so many levels. Your Great Days in Paris excels in accessing the culinary and cultural aspects of France, and now we are delighted to be offering this opportunity for small groups to explore ‘the mind of the Middle Ages’ and foundations of contemporary Christian beliefs as we look in depth at great Gothic Cathedrals, images of Mary, evocative labyrinths, and exquisite ancient tapestries in partnership with an expert ‘medievalist’.

This promises to be a memorable experience.

The weeklong tour includes four days in Paris, and day trips to Chartres, Angers and Reims. In Chartres, we will learn to ‘read’ the sculptures and windows of the great gothic Cathedral. In Angers, located in the heart of the Loire Valley, we will experience the glorious 14th century “Apocalypse Tapestries” (and also to a museum devoted to contemporary celestial tapestries inspired by those venerable treasures). Our day trip to the Champagne region will include jewel of Reims, the historic gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame. On a more secular note, we will celebrate our journey with a taste of Champagne in one of the historic cellars of the ‘Grandes Marques’ Champagne houses located in Reims and a drive through the verdant wine villages on our way back to Paris.

Sally Peabody developed this week-long tour for fellow members and friends of Old South Church in Boston. Sally would be delighted to discuss this private small group tour with other guests or with congregations who would enjoy this spirited experience.

Lyon Culinary Treasure Tour

2012 Tour Dates TBA

Lyon is a splendid French city with a scenic and strategic location in the lovely northern Rhone valley.  Bounded by two rivers, the Rhone and the Saone, Lyon is a charmer replete with rich history, intact Roman ruins, a renowned gastronomic heritage and an enviable lifestyle.  Among its many architectural treasures are two well-preserved Roman amphitheatres, an important medieval Cathedral and the largest intact Renaissance era quarter in Europe (outside of Venice).  Add to all of that a sophisticated urban mix of theatre, museums, art, lively cafes and clubs and Lyon comes alive.

Lyon considers itself the gastronomic capital of France and a sampling of the markets, bistros, bouchons and food artisans leads one to believe that this just may be correct.  Les Halles Paul Bocuse is a glorious permanent market with dazzling selections of the freshest foods and excellent wines from the Rhone-Alpes region. And there are other vibrant marché volants that set up along the riverbanks to sell beautiful fresh food and other products.  Lyon is famed for rich dark chocolates from Bernachon and Richart, for redolent cheese such as St. Felicien and St. Marcellin, for uber-chef Paul Bocuse, and for its Bouchons, a uniquely convivial Lyonnaise style of bistro with hearty foods complimented by fine Beaujolais or Rhone wines, grown in nearby vineyards.

Join Sally Peabody of Your Great Days in Paris for this five-day small-group cultural and culinary exploration of a great French city as well as a day out to the charming historic small city of Vienne and to visit a noted northern Rhone winemaker such as Etienne Guigal.  This tour will provide a delicious dégustation of Lyon.  Transportation to and from Paris will be via TGV.
